Below is information on how we care for our goats.  We strive to put the best into our goats to give the best quality animal and production possible.  Without a good healthy goat you would not have the quality we have.

Feed:  We feed free choice Grass hay  and/or Orchard grass mix.  Supplemented in the winter/spring months of February thru May with 2nd cutting alfalfa. All of our goats get grain. We use cereal grains like oats and barley and a touch of Animax. We offer free choice loose minerals and Baking soda, cobalt , selenium trace,  & Iodized salt blocks.  On average they receive  about 3/4 of a pound a day unless they are in milk. All of my milkers get  equal parts cereal  grain - Milk Lbs and 1 lb Animax per day as they milk heavy  and this ratio seems optimum  for body condition.

Vaccinations & testing:  We vaccinate with Veterinarian recommended Colorado Serum CD&T and Bo-Se. Kids start there vaccines at 12 weeks. Bred  Does are given boosters at  30 days prior to kidding, and again before breeding. Usually this falls about every six months, unless they are milking through, in which case they are given their shots in 6 month intervals. Bucks and dry stock are boosted bi-annually. Yearly CAE testing is also done approximately 30 days before the first kids of the year are due to arrive. .

Kids:  Sometimes we bottle feed and sometimes we dam raise. Bottle doelings are kept on a replacement milker basis as we are always trying to better our herd. Select breedings are slated sometimes years in advance and those crops are most definitely treasured. We have some does that raise exceptionally sweet dam raised kids. Being CAE negative allows us to let the dams keep and raise there own. Other times due to multiple births, to ensure the well being of all the kids we will take all but one away from the dam. She is then brought to the milking barn to be relieved of excess until the single is ready to wean. Babies all are handled often and given play time with both humans and their own kind.
